Well, almost every one of us may have heard his name but only few among us know him completely; the superstar of J&K Parveez Rasool.
On 13th April 1989 a star was born in the family of cricketers at Bijbehara town which lies in the south Kashmir’s Anatnag district. Parveez started playing cricket by watching his father Ghulam Rasool Zargar who was a famous cricketer of his time and brother Asif Rasool who has represented J&K at higher levels. Apart from his father and brother Parveez learned game from his coach Abdul Qayoom who has played first-class cricket for J&K.
Parveez started his cricket career at the age of 14 when he first time represented J&K at under 14 level. After that he represented J&K in several age-groups. His father saw a great talent in him and allowed him to play cricket professionally which most parents in J&K never allow their kids to.
Due to unavailability of turf wicket in his district, Parveez used to travel at least 50 km’s daily to practice at Srinagar. Parveez used to work hard in the nets and his performance kept improving. In the mean time he represented J&K in Ranji Trophy. He made his first class debut in 2008 against Himachal Pradesh in Dharamshala. After that he remained standout performer for J&K. He kept helping his team with both bat and ball. In 2012-13 Ranji season, Parveez scored 594 runs and also took 33 wickets in 7 matches. After consistent performances in Ranji Trophy, he got a call-up for India A side and became the first cricketer from J&K to play for India A side.
Parveez remained the man of firsts as he was also the first cricketer from J&K to get an IPL contract. He was signed by Pune warriors India in 2013 and made his IPL debut against KKR and took one wicket in that match. In 2013-14 Ranji season he scored 663 runs and took 27 wickets. For his impressive performances he was awarded as the best all-rounder in Domestic circuit for 2013-14 season.
Parveez got a call-up for the national team in 2013 for Zimbabwe tour but didn’t play any game on that tour. Finally his dream came true when he represented India against Bangaldesh in June 2014. He took 2 wickets in his debut match but after that he didn’t got any chance so far.
Parveez is famous all over J&K; he is an outstanding cricketer who has a great love towards game. He is a hard worker who never loses hope. He is the role model for all budding cricketers of J&K. He is a great human too; he helps all the young cricketers of J&K by providing them tips about game. I wish him all the luck for future and I hope he will keep making us proud.
