For Real Kashmir FC, conquering the 2nd Division is not enough

MOHSIN KAMAL Mere participator’s a year back and now the champions of 2nd division I-League- meet the latest football fame of Jammu and Kashmir, Real Kashmir Football Club. A Srinagar based football club headed by  Shamim Mehraj – a Newspaper owner, recently did something exceptional and unexpected by emerging as the winners of 2nd Division I-League. With this stun, Real Kashmir FC became the first team from Jammu and Kashmir to win the 2nd Division I-League and qualify for the 1st Division. Nicknamed as the  “Leopards of Kashmir” , Real Kashmir was founded just 2 years back in 2016 and has now grown to become one of the premier clubs of the state since then. Aqib Nazir: All-rounder with a pedigree

MOHSIN KAMAL KNOW YOUR CRICKETERS Aqib Nazir Mir- a 21 year old all-rounder from the town of cricketers- Bijbehara is one of the exciting talents going around in the state. A talented middle order batter and handy offie, Aqib plies his trade for South Kashmir’s premier Bijbehara Sports Club. He has also represented Amateur Cricket Club and Baba Reshi Lions in the Downtown Champions League. His CV includes representing J&K U-19 and U-23 teams with distinction. His coaches say Aqib is a safe pair of hands with a bullet arm and can field anywhere in the park. Physically very fit and quick Aqib started playing cricket by watching local cricket. Aqib first represented J&K at U-14 level when he was 12 years of age. After that he was selected for U-16 too. Good all-round show meant he was picked for U-19 side. It isn’t easy to eke out a career in sports field in Kashmir. More so for aspiring women. Besides always having to deal with societal pressure, a girl trying to create a niche for herself finds it hard to get proper infrastructure and meet true promoters of sports. There aren’t many star attractions in women sport in the valley that upcoming sportswoman would look upto to follow their path.
